Extra Credit (35 pts. max this semester)
Read M. Butterfly (15pts), Doll's House (15pts), Fences (15pts) and/or Tartuffe (15pts). Answer the questions in the textbooks and complete a very brief Literary Analysis: Drama (see pdf).
View 3 films from the approved list and complete an analysis using the literary criticism techniques discussed in class. Choose from New Criticism/Formalism, Historical/Social/Marxist/Feminist, and Archetypal/Mythic. See DiYanni Chapter: Critical Theory for specific questions (5 pts. per film. May be done with a partner).
You may also analyze a modern tragedy such as The House of Sand and Fog using Aristotle's criteria (5pts).

Read "Shiloh" for historical/social/feminist/bio and "Astromer's Wife" for Formalist (5 pts. each-partners ok).
Read one of the 2 James Joyce stories in your textbooks ("The Dead," "Boarding House," and "Evelyn.") Answer the questions in the book and complete a BRIEF Literary Analysis: Fiction using all of the approaches for each comparing the themes/ideas/elements to "Araby" (10 pts-partners ok).
