introduction

Boy is at Coyote Creek. He looks into space and starts to muse on his life and the events that have led him to this point. He looks like he's had a hard day: hair messed up, clothes dirty, his face a blank stare.

Boy (Narrator)

Sometimes i wonder why things are the way they are. is there a reason why i am the way i am? And if there is a reason, a purpose, why is it so hard to find... this world is an interesting place. Full of people looking for a sense of satisfaction. the problem is... no one seems to know how to find it.

Scene changes as the narrator continues to talk. Room has little color and life. The room is neat but lacks a sense of personality. The boy is sleeping and lying in his bed.

Boy

at least that's how it is where i live. everyday is always the same. nothing ever changes. it's a never ending routine that i just can't seem to escape. Each day seems like another chance to relive the shortcomings of the previous one. it's the same life repeated every day. I die when i go to sleep. And my life begins when i open my eyes.

Heading to school

Credits begin now. He walks through the neighborhood with a bored look on his face. He sees homeless man with sign that says, "I mean what I say and say what I mean." Then he finally arrives at school.

school

He walks into the gate and walks across campus slowly.

Boy

They say school is supposed to teach us to become educated citizens who can think for themselves and behave in a civil manner. I agree that its attempts to do this, but then again, so does prison.

He is now in class. The teacher is speaking but the boy continues to muse in his mind and cannot hear the teacher speak.

Bell rings.

He sits down with his lunch, opens his lunch, and begins to eat slowly. Thinking to himself.

Boy

Everyone is controlled by daily routines. We wake up, go to school...or work, and wait for something spontaneous to come and break them out of their regular schedules. Just like how we students here are controlled by the bell. We move as though the bell dictates what to do and where to go next. The social hierarchy consists of the king and queen and their followers- the jocks and their cheerleaders along the rest of us- the nerds, the drugees, the preppies, and the invisible. That's where I come in.

Bell rings.

He gets up, cleans up his mess, and goes to Mr. Varieur's class. He sits down at his seat, exhausted from school.

Bell rings.

Mr. varieur

Alright, guys. (talks about Raisin in the Sun and the desire of the Younger family to break away from the typical idea of staying segregated in the black neighborhood and moving into a white neighborhood).

Boy slowly starts to fall asleep and dreams weird stuff about unicorns (?), war scenes, Jabbawockeez, random people, voice-overs.

Bell rings.

Boy wakes up and drags himself into another class.

Scene fades into him walking back home from school. Walks into house, shuts door, and the day ends.

----

Getting ready for school

He wakes up from his alarm, drags himself out of bed, and goes into the bathroom. Brushes his teeth, combs his hair, and gets dressed. He comes downstairs to eat breakfast and finishes up. (This whole time, background music is playing).

HEADING TO SCHOOL

He comes out of the house and starts his way to school. On the way to school, he sees the homeless man with a sign again, that says "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple."

SCHOOL

He arrives at school and scene shows that he's already been in all his earlier classes and shifts to Varieur's class.

MR. VARIEUR

(talks about how they stood against the typical black neighborhood and the degrading comments about how its "necessary" to stay in this white community)

He falls asleep again, with Mr. Varieur's voice-over echoing in his dream. "To them, the answer was simple, but it was merely ignored."

Bell rings.

ed

Hey!

Shaking Boy to wake him up.

ed

Hey! Wake up, man! Class is over.

Boy wakes up.

BOY

Huh? Oh. Thanks. Man, his lectures always put me to sleep.

Ed

Oh, trust me. Me too. One time I woke up with a card on my face.

Boy and Ed laugh and start walking out of the class together.

ED

What's the point in coming to school anyway?

BOY

There's nothing better to do.

ED

Alright, see ya around then.

They go their separate ways. Boy turns around to look if Ed is still there, but he is gone. He shrugs and keeps on walking. Then, he feels a tap on his shoulder and he turns around.

ED

Hey, you forgot something.

Gives him the homework he forgot.

BOY

Oh, thanks. (chuckles, kinda embarrassed).Well I gotta get to class. See ya.

ED

Later.

Ed starts walking away. Turns back around

ED

Hey, wait up, real quick. What are you doing after school today?

BOY

Uh, I don't really have any plans, why?

ED

I was gonna go to the pool hall today to practice on my shooting. Wanna come with?

BOY

Uh.. (hesitantly) I don't really shoot pool.

Ed

Don't worry about that, man! Just meet me there tonight at 8. Gotta go (walking away already) see ya there!

BOY

No, uh wait- *sighh*

Walks away.

Pool hall

Ed working on his shots, breaks, about to start playing. Boy comes in, waves hello. Ed waves back.

ED

Glad to see you came.

Walk out of Aloha.

WAL-MART

ED

Nights not over yet.

Walk towards Wal-mart

BOY

Huh? Walmart? Why are we here?

ED

Let's just have a little fun.

Walk into Wal-mart. They walk towards the toy section and begin to look at things.

BOY

What are you doing? We're gonna get in trouble.

ED

What? Just having a little fun. Get over here.

The entire scene shifts from aisle to aisle, with them playing with different toys- bikes, bouncing balls, just fooling around. (playful background music playing)

Wal-mart worker comes into the scene

Wal-mart worker

Excuse me.

Boy and Ed are surprised to see that they get caught.

W.m.w.

What do you guys think you're doing? You guys don't have a right to be playing with these items! Buy something, or get out!

ED

Calm down, lady.

W.m.w.

I don't need your attitude and neither does this store, thank you very much. Now, both of you, GET OUT!

ED

Let's dip.

Boy and Ed run out of store, laughing in disbelief.

boy

Oh man! (laughing) What a rush!

Both see a shopping cart in the parking lot

ED

Aye. You thinkin' what I'm thinking?

BOY

Uh...(scratches his head)..shopping time?

ED

Nigga, please. Just follow me.

Walk up to the empty shopping cart.

ED

Here. Get in.

BOY

What? Are you freaking crazy? We just got kicked out of Wal-mart.

ED

Can't get any worse than that. What are they gonna do? Arrest us?

BOY

Alright...

They play around in shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot.

Boy's mother calls his cellphone. He walks away from where they're playing and picks up the call. All that is heard is her speaking loudly on the phone, telling him to come home. He hangs up and goes back to Ed.

Ed is putting away the cart and walks towards Boy.

ED

Is everything okay?

BOY

Yeah, I just gotta go home now. It's getting late and I'm pretty tired.

ED

Alright, that's cool. I'll see ya tomorrow or something.

They go their separate ways. Boy looks back, and sees Ed walking away and he continues to walk. Camera shifts focus on a car passing in between them, and Ed disappears.

SCHOOL

This time, the scene begins at lunch, him eating by himself, playing around with his food. He's sleepy and bored. He begins to think to himself.

BOY

I feel a little different today. It's as if I'm anticipating something good will happen to me. I wonder where Ed is.

Ed slides into the bench.

ED

So this is where you were. I was looking for you.

Boy turns around, surprised.

BOY

Hey!

ED
